Will anybody vault above this Tiger?

Winter is coming! And for those of you non-Game of Thrones fans we pity you. The running back class of 2017 already has scouts and dynasty owners alike drunk with salivating pride. If you traded your 2017 1st or your devy picks you may find this article to be utter bad news. For you “re-building” folk this is the year you want to grab running backs. We narrowed it down to the six sharpest swords that your battalion will need to weather the storm.

Leonard Fournette / junior / LSU / 6’1″ / 230 i

  • Much like Ezekiel Elliott in 2016 it appears Fournette is destine to 1.01 in rookie mocks in 2017, devy junkies probably already know this
  • A true power back who coverts speed to power like an elite pass rusher
  • Phenomenal balance and leg charge that makes it difficult for just one defender to stop him
  • Fairly soft hands and tender feet make him multi-dimensional
  • Ran a lot out of the I-Formation with a fullback as a shield blocking the first arrows of battle
  • Turns the corner with an explosive thrust and thirst for chunks of yardage
  • Transformative player who applies an Adrian Peterson like creativity to a Bo Jackson style thunder

Nick Chubb / junior / Georgia / 5’10” / 220 af9f46a9560f3427f026bfbe747f4744_crop_north

  • Sets up blocks with well timed patience
  • Anticipates cutbacks lane openings with gashing success
  • Has a lot to prove post ACL injury
  • Will need a sharp gauntlet drill to solidify his three down back status
  • Runs very upright and a tad stiff in the midsection (Darren McFadden, Todd Gurley and T.J. Yeldon also had the same concern)

Dalvin Cook / sophomore / Florida State / 5’11” / 206 Dalvin Cook

  • Great peripheral vision while running through the line
  • His devastating burst leads to epically long runs
  • He must be tackled below the belt but his charging thighs do not make that easy
  • Runs a little stiff in his waist and shoulders.
  • Decent reception numbers mean he may get a tad overvalued

Christian McCaffery / junior / Stanford / 6′ / 201 101315-CFB-Stanford-Christian-McCaffrey-pi-ssm.vresize.1200.675.high.67

  • Football I.Q. is almost as massive has his instincts
  • Many will argue he is a gadget player, we say: fine let him fall to you
  • Potentially a Top five RB and WR in the 2017 class
  • Scheme will determine where he plays but he will not be scheme dependent
  • His cookie cutter routes combine with a stellar wiggle will carry him far
  • Majority of rushing attempts came out the shotgun or pistol
  • Not a power back but he can still handle 12 plus touches per game in the pros

Samaje Perine / junior / Oklahoma / 5’11” / 237 r960-c18524e228dd1849bd00fc2bab7c51ff

  • Very sneaky on delayed runs, uses quick and light feet to make people miss
  • Ridiculous upper body strength will translate to him being a power back/three down back
  • Steamy open field runner, quicker than fast
  • Soft and sticky handed receiver who understands third down back duties and how to be an safety valve for his QB
  • Hard not to see Barry Sanders or Thurman Thomas in his game
  • Not used to a single back/non-shotgun scheme

Jalen Hurd / junior / Tennessee / 6’4″ / 240 gallery.78718

  • Exceptional tackle shedding power from his knees to shoulders
  • Deceptively nimble for a big man
  • He runs smaller than his frame
  • He uses his full body extension to explode through defenders
  • Patient with the rock and he sits up blocks well
  • Big target for thirsty NFL backers to smack, will probably be asked to cut weight and gain muscle

Above is a stiff arm for the ages… go ahead watch it dozen times!
