DFW #IDP 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: DE Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett – junior / 6’5″ / 252 – Texas A&M

  • Dangles in front of blockers like an un-punctured bratwurst yet nobody seems to fully sink their teeth into him
  • Requires a double team if you must run your play on his side of the field
  • Nearly impossible to hit squarely as he carries no extra weight on him and that is a good thing
  • Comparable to Ziggy Ansah but possibly further along in his development than Ansah was in college
  • Also could have an arch much like Jadeveon Clowney hopefully without the micro fracture situation
  • Played against the Best offensive line talent in the country
  • Scheme fit will be huge as his IDP merits will be fulfilled if he is a 4-3 DE
  • Would really benefit in a wide-nine centric scheme
  • Has length, speed and that 45 degree bend that is so sought-after
  • He could more success versus right tackles but mostly lined up versus left tackles in college
  • Currently the consensus choice for #1 overall pick meaning he could join the Emmanuel Ogbah, Carl Nassib, Jamie Meder, Danny Shelton and Xavier Cooper in the Browns new look 4-3 rotation
  • Has been know to over-pursue plays
  • The drop off in tackle numbers is a notable concern but that could be attributed to an influx of double teams
  • Will need to get stronger when stunting towards the interior
  • Needs to get his arms up to take away passing angles when in pursuit on the QB
  • Beside a few plays, Alabama OT Cam Robinson ate his lunch, Garrett was gassed halfway through the second quarter
  • Only 15 of his 31 college sacks came versus Power Five opponents and just 11 of those came versus SEC opponents
  • His other sacks came in five games versus Lamar (2), Rice (2.5), Louisiana-Monroe (3.5), Nevada (3.5) and Texas-San Antonio (4.5)
  • Zero sacks and one total TFL versus SMU, Ball State, Western Carolina (we have no idea who this is either) and Prairie View A&M
  • Ranked #1 in the state of Texas, #1 at his position nationally and the #2 overall prospect in country coming out of high school
  • Also recruited by Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Florida State, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Miami (FL), Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas with Arkansas, Minnesota and Notre Dame showing the most interest
  • COMBINE UPDATE: TBD
  • NFL DRAFT SELECTION: TBD
  • DYNASTY ROOKIE: 3.01-4.01, he will be more sack dependent early in his career, should not be the first IDP player off the board.
  • 2017 OUTLOOK: TBD
