DFW 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: Edge Taco Charlton

Taco Charlton / 6′ 5″ / 260 pounds – Michigan

  • Thin framed DE will likely need to add muscle mass to remain along the line
  • Does remind us of Jags Rookie DE Yannick Ngakuoe which gives us hope Charlton can be nice energy guy
  • He already employs many different pass rushing moves
  • Most edge players arrive in the NFL with one or two moves that work because that’s all they have needed
  • Charlton use the speed rush, the spin move, the hand check, the arm bar, the bull rush and the slip and shoot
  • He lined up all over the defense, that help expand his move arsenal
  • Uses length well and pressures/collapses the pocket by taking smart angles
  • Ten sacks (9 in conference) in 11 2016 games
  • Show steady tackle growth throughout his college years
  • Average run stopper but not timid by any means
  • 28 career TFLs is not an overly impressive stat
  • Gets too high too quickly, in turned he struggles to release from blocks
  • Squares up bigger blockers at times with not much success, does continue to relentlessly fight to whistle #solidmotor
  • Will struggle early if asked to matchup with mostly left tackles
  • Landing spot scheme will have a major effect on his IDP value
  • If he ends up as 3-4 OLB that will kill his tackle floor as he will likely just be a pass rusher
  • If he is drafted to be a 4-3 DE he could eventually develop into a 50 tackle, 8 sack guy annually
  • Although he was ranked 237th overall in nation (2012) coming out of high school he was ranked 10th at his position
  • He was also recruited by Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, UCLA, Ole Miss, Michigan State and Wisconsin
  • COMBINE UPDATE: TBD
  • NFL DRAFT SELECTION: TBD
  • DYNASTY ROOKIE: 4.01 and beyond, again landing spot will be huge!
