DFW 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: ILB Reuben Foster
Reuben Foster – Senior / 6’1″ / 236 – Alabama
- Just like those before him (C.J. Mosley & Reggie Ragland) Foster is a sideline to sideline instinctual battering ram
- He was second on Alabama in tackles in 2015 with 73 (Ragland was 1st)
- Tackles jumped up to 115 total in 2016, also recorded 5 sacks
- In 2016 he led the team in solo tackles (60) and assists (55)…Translation: he is ALWAYS around the ball
- Foster recorded 8 TFLs in 2015 and 13 TFLs in 2016, which is impressive for an off-the-ball backer
- Explosive hitter who doesn’t just make the tackle he stops people dead-in-their-tracks and often send them backwards
- Usually meets the ball carrier with his back arched towards them and tackles through them
- Efficiently tackles around the mid-section or stings the thigh
- He recorded zero INTs but he broke up 9 passes
- Great in coverage and he has the gusto to jump routes at times
- Already locates and anticipates like pro, is always diagnosing pre-snap and on the fly
- Has the ability to slip and glide through holes in the protection
- He might struggle agility wise versus true NFL third down/scat backs
- Played with easily the best defensive line in the nation his whole college career
- Viewed as a very safe prospect but please remember he will not be controlling as clean of trenches as he saw at ‘Bama
- Ranked as the top LB coming out of High School and #13 in the nation
- Also recruited by Auburn (hometown), Clemson, Miami (FL), Georgia, LSU & USC
