DFW 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: QB Mitch Trubisky

Mitch Trubisky – Junior / 6′ 2″ / 220 pounds – North Carolina

  • Very sound footwork in 3, 5 & 7 step drops
  • Quick release in the vein of John Elway
  • Completion percentage of 68% was very solid but a little misleading as he generally live on quick and short routes
  • Not afraid to tuck and run for a first down, also ran for 8 career TDs
  • Solid thrower on slants and other intermediate passes
  • Goes through progressions well, while showing nice pocket awareness
  • Five different players caught at least 25 balls from Trubisky in 2016
  • Torched rival Florida State for 403 yards on 31-38 passing and 3 TD passes
  • Deep ball accuracy is average, really suffers with pressure
  • Ten career INTs on 572 pass attempts, but he has also had 10 starts without an INT
  • Struggled mightily (24-40 for 156 yards) versus a very athletic Georgia defense
  • Also struggled versus Virginia Tech (13-33 for 58 yards and 2 INTs) in the rain
  • Too easily rattled with up the gut pressure
  • Also seems to panic greatly when playing from behind
  • Will force ball when timing is disrupted
  • His yardage total was aided by some very good yards after the catch WRs (Ryan Switzer, Mack Hollins, Bug Howard & Austin Proehl)
  • Was not able to usurp the dual threat QB Marquise Williams as starter in 2015 (Williams went undrafted)
  • Only one full season as a college starter
  • Early first round buzz could land him a tough situation, making it harder to have crucial early successes (see Tim Couch)
  • Was ranked as the 21st QB coming out of High School but was not ranked nationally
  • Also recruited by Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee and Wisconsin
  • COMBINE UPDATE: TBD
  • NFL DRAFT SELECTION: TBD
  • DYNASTY ROOKIE: 2.08 to 3.12, his potential of going to a suffering franchise is huge and that really hurts his value.
