DFW 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: RB Samaje Perine

Samaje Perine / Junior / Oklahoma / 5’11” / 230

  • Set the school record for most career rushing yards, ahead of guys like Billy Sims, Adrian Peterson and DeMarco Murray
  • Recorded 15 career 100 yard rushing games and 6 career 200 yard rushing games
  • Very wicked on delayed runs, uses quick and light feet to make people miss
  • Ridiculous upper body strength will translate to him being a power back/three down back, even if its not early
  • Steamy open field runner, runs very low, hard to hit him squarely
  • Soft and sticky handed receiver who understands third down back duties and how to be an safety valve for his QB
  • Hard not to see Barry Sanders or Thurman Thomas in his game (sorry Oklahoma State Fans)
  • Could a be third and long and third and short back as a rookie
  • He refuses to get knocked back, always falls forward whem getting tackled
  • Gutted out a brutal ankle injury during the closing weeks of the 2015 season, showing his tremendous heart and desire to succeed
  • Recovered to gained another 1,000 rushing yards in just 10 games in 2016
  • He is an unbelievable combination of power, speed and decisiveness
  • Effective enough blocker
  • Too accustomed to a single back shotgun scheme
  • Lack of college receptions will hurt his real and dynasty draft value
  • Most of his 2016 production got dwarfed by Joe Mixon’s, but when the Sooners needed “the tough two yards” Perine was their guy
  • Ranked as the 13th RB in the nation coming of high school and the 19th overall player state of  Texas
  • Also recruited by Alabama, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas
