DFW 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: SS Jamal Adams

Jamal Adams – junior / 6’1″ / 214 – LSU

  • Singles up with taller talent and blankets them
  • Can play in-the-box or single high
  • Probably best suited for your IDP benefit a 4-3 SS and shifting to nickel LB in sub-package
  • Could eventually blossom into 100 tackle guy annually as early as year two if all breaks right
  • Other rookie safeties like Malik Hooker and Budda Baker are probably faster but for IDP purposes Adams has to be the #1 DB prospect
  • Plays bigger and hits harder than his size, will not be surprised if he is a top 3 (at DB) bench press finisher at the combine
  • Also excels in hybrid role as a lateral patrol officer
  • Tackles like a bear-trap as he clamps down on the middle to lower leg and holds firm
  • Vicious and precise hitter (he flattened the 6-foot-6 250 pound O.J. Howard to prevent him from bringing down a tipped ball)
  • He holds and contains his area when in zone coverage
  • He reads the QB’s eyes like seasoned middle linebacker
  • His 18 career TFLs are a true reflection of his on-the-field closing speed
  • Does need some angle refinement as he will bite on inside play action if in-the-box
  • Has been seen getting tossed around by some bigger blockers
  • Has shown some vulnerability to WR wiggles when in off-coverage
  • Like any DB he takes calculated route jumping chances and sometimes he gets burned
  • Ranked as the 3rd best Safety in the nation coming out of high school, the 5th overall player in the state of Texas and 38th nationally
  • Also heavily recruited by Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas and Texas A&M
  • COMBINE UPDATE: TBD
  • NFL DRAFT SELECTION: TBD
  • DYNASTY ROOKIE: 2.05-3.10, others safeties may go before him, if you are in need feel free to jump all over him here.
