DFW 2017 ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Mike Williams

Mike Williams – redshirt junior / 6’3″ / 210 – Clemson

  • He missed most of 2015 with a nasty neck injury (basically a broken neck) after crashing into a goal post, this also slowed him early on in 2016
  • He took an absolute beating versus Alabama this year but he hung strong and got better as he adjusted throughout the game
  • Very quick twitch but needs to be more aggressive when ball is in the air
  • Can break tackles and he shows elite bursts
  • Excellent tenacity and hunger after the catch
  • Understands how to leverage himself versus smaller DBs
  • He could be very special if he takes his NFL weight training with serious dedication
  • Height will make him a mismatch problem for a creative OC
  • Athleticism shines through while he stops, then starts, he finds that top gear quickly
  • Uses his hands well to gain crucial separation
  • Baits DBs with subtle steps (almost plotting) and an electric stutter step
  • Although he is not quite the freak, we see some Randy Moss like traits in him
  • He will get a lot of Alshon Jeffery comparsions yet he is a two or three years away from reaching that jump-out-of-gym and strength potential
  • His college YPC of 15.4 is slightly jaded because he was soley a deep threat in his freshman and sophomore seasons
  • His 13.9 YPC on 98 receptions is more of a true reflection and very respectable
  • Not the best hands
  • He does not sell the play, very easy to tell when it is a run play because he does not explode of the line like he does when his route is defined
  • Sometimes runs too patient routes, will need to be in an area a precise time at the next level
  • Another neck injury is certainly of grave concern
  • He might take a year to comfort with the speed of things
  • Ranked 27th at his position coming of High School and 4th overall in the state of South Carolina
  • Also heavily recruited by Alabama, Norte Dame and South Carolina
  • COMBINE UPDATE: 40 = 4.54 (pro-day), Bench = 15, Vert = 32 1/2, Broad = 10’1″
  • NFL DRAFT SELECTION: Round 1
  • DYNASTY ROOKIE: 1.02 to 1.05, we could not imagine getting him any later
