Zay Jones – Sr / 6’2″ / 201 lbs – East Carolina

  • Had an insane career at ECU notching 399 total receptions for 4,279 yards and 23 TDs.
  • In 2016 Zay caught an unbelievable 158 passes for 1,746 yards and 8 TDs which were both a school and American Athletic Conference single season records.  That being said ECU has an offense that can inflate production and stats with lots of short passes from screens, crossing and drag routes.
  • 2016 all-american athletic conference first team.
  • 2016 Biletnikoff award finalist.
  • Progressed every season going from 62 catches as a freshman to 81 as a sophomore, 98 as a junior and 158 as a senior.
  • Projected as the 4th best WR in the NFL draft.
  • Had a great combine across the board anchored by his 4.45 forty and 36″ vertical.  Not sure he plays this fast when I watch him on tape, but these are great numbers.
  • Only 4 of his 158 catches as a senior went for over 35 yards which could concern some with his big play ability, but I’m not worried based on his strong 40-time.
  • Yards per catch and YAC could be a concern as he isn’t dynamic with the ball in his hands.
  • Decent but not great route runner due to running a lot of short passes, but should develop at the next level while practicing more of the route tree.
  • I have a feeling he’ll be playing a lot in the slot in the NFL.
  • Can make acrobatic catches whether climbing the ladder to get them or using his body control to adjust.
  • Has strong hands and potentially the best in this draft class.
  • He doesn’t allow the ball to get into his body unless he’s catching over the middle preparing for contact.
  • Brings some toughness by making clutch catches over the middle.
  • Should be able to add more weight at the next level.
  • A smart kid with high football IQ and an Honor Role student.
  • Strong character as a 2-time team captain while growing up around football with multiple members including his dad, uncle and others playing in the NFL.
  • Recruited by only ECU and Arkansas State while being ignored by almost all college recruiting staffs across the nation.
  • Rated by Rivals as a 3-star recruit coming out of HS
  • COMBINE UPDATE: 40 = 4.45, Vertical = 36 1/2″, Broad Jump = 11’01”, Bench = 15, 3-cone = 6.79
  • NFL DRAFT SELECTION: Round 2
  • DYNASTY ROOKIE: Late 1st or early 2nd.  I’m not sure I ever see him as a true #1 but could thrive as a #2 with a stud across the way.
