DFS Bargain Bin: Week 15

By Luke Grilli, DFW Senior Writer and Co-Owner @LGrilli88

Want to win some cash this week? Well I’ve got your back. My Daily Fantasy strategy is this, load my team up with the likes of Antonio Brown and Julio Jones ($9,000+) to get the guaranteed points, while filling out my rest of the roster with cheap player who are in a prime position to outscore their salary. Each week, I scour the bottom of the Draft Kings and Fan Duel buckets to get YOU the best bargains around. Follow along and let’s win some money!

Carson Palmer

Draft Kings Salary: $6,000
Fan Duel Salary: $7,600
Do I feel good about this pick considering how  bad Carson Palmer has played this season? No, I feel dirty and disgusting saying that you should play Carson Palmer…but there is a reason behind it. No, it’s not because New Orleans’ pass defense is one of the worst in the league…well that is one of the reasons. The main reason though, have you seen the weather throughout the league this week? All of the juicy match ups for the top tier QBs in Fantasy and DFS may be marred by snow, bad weather, frigid temperatures and/or all of the above. It’s like the “Random” Weather setting in Madden, you just don’t know what you are going to get. So I suggest you stay with the safe play if you are trying to save a few bucks this week. That safe play is Carson Palmer against a lack luster secondary in the dry desert. When you count your cash at the end of the week, you’ll forget all about the fact that you just relied on Carson Palmer in Week 15 of the NFL season.

Running Back
Kenneth Farrow

Draft Kings Salary: $4,400
Fan Duel Salary: $6,000
This pick has to come with a disclaimer I guess. I honestly don’t know what the Chargers plan on doing at Running Back on Sunday. When Melvin Gordon went down on Sunday, Farrow filled in admirably I guess? Ronnie Hillman was picked up off waivers by the Chargers but was not yet active due to not having a complete handle on the playbook, but having a week to prepare, he could absolutely come in and take the passing down work away from Farrow. So, that is my disclaimer, but at this price, Farrow is a good discounted RB2 with upside against a weak Oakland Defense. He may not beat the world this week, but he could have a Matt Asiata stat line where his TD count is higher than his YPC.

Isaiah Crowell
Draft Kings Salary: $4,100
Fan Duel Salary: $5,500
Fresh off his 3rd 100 rushing yard effort of the season, Isaiah has a chance to bounce back against a defense that just allowed Le’Veon Bell to rush for one of the greatest fantasy football single games…EVER. This Buffalo team looks like they are just going through the motions at this point and that could bode well for the Brownies. Crow only received 10 carries last week, probably due to the game flow after Cleveland went down early, but he made the most of them.  This week’s game in Buffalo should be a little closer, which should bode well for Mr. Crowell and allow for him to sniff 20 total touches. That volume alone makes him worth the low prices found in DFS this week.

Wide Receiver
Rishard Matthews

Draft Kings Salary: $4,600
Fan Duel Salary: $5,800
What? So one of the most consistent fantasy receivers has a bye and then puts up a 1 catch effort against the Broncos’ #1 rated pass defense…his price just drops down to WR4/5 levels? Fine by me. I’ll gladly take Rishard Matthews at a severe discount in both Fan Duel and Draft Kings. Kansas City has a great pass rush, but their secondary can struggle at times. I like Mariota and Matthews to hook up on Sunday 6-7 times with one of those catches being a TD. Put Rishard in as your WR3 or FLEX and worry about the rest of your lineup.

Marqise Lee
Draft Kings Salary: $4,000
Fan Duel Salary: $5,700
It seems like we have been waiting years for this guy to finally emerge as one of the more consistent WR3s in the league. Injuries and being a Jaguar have both definitely been a huge part of  Lee’s delay in rising to fantasy relevance, but in Year 3, it seems like he is getting there. Last week Lee tallied his second 100 yard receiving game of the season and now this week, while he faces a tough Texans D, Lee will be leaned on again by Blake Bortles since he is the only somewhat consistent offensive Jaguar. I like Lee to get another 5-6 catches and approach the century mark. If he gets in the end zone? Well, that’s just icing on the cake.

Tight End
Cameron Brate

Draft Kings Salary: $3,800
Fan Duel Salary: $5,700
The whole Bucs offense was stagnant against the Saints on Sunday, but I’m hoping, nay PRAYING, that they turn it around this week against the Cowboys. Dallas has been able to stop the run on the defensive side of the ball, but happen to be one of the worst defenses against the pass. Jordan Reed had a 10/95/2 stat line against them 2 weeks ago and I think Cameron Brate can at least get half that, which would be great value in Draft Kings. If you are looking for a bargain TE in Fan Duel, I suggest you look elsewhere. Brate $5,700 salary is a wee bit bloated for my liking.

Defense/Special Teams
Baltimore Ravens

Draft Kings Salary: $3,100
Fan Duel Salary: $4,700
Things are getting hectic in Baltimore after the loss to the Patriots in Week 14. Steve Smith is throwing helmets, Terrell Suggs is whining about their loss…something tells me that this team is going to come out angry against the Eagles and punish Carson Wentz. Wentz has a turnover in every game since Week 9 (11 total) and he will keep that streak alive in Week 15 against the Ravens.

And there you have it. Find any better bargains in the Draft Kings or Fan Duel cache of players? Let me know on Twitter or in the comments!
