DFW-IDP Blitz Episode 12 Week 5 Recap

  • Cardinals 33 Niners 21… Deone Bucannon found his 2015 form with 10 Solos and 4 assists; Marcus Golden continues to heat up as one of the best 3-4 OLB in the NFL with 7 solos 3 assists and 2 sacks. He is startable each week if you start 3 LBs. The Cardinals D had 7 sacks on the day. The Niners are going to be hard to figure out from the LB position. Personally, I am staying away for the rest of the season. Bethea is the only must start from this squad
  • Patriots 33 Browns 13… Patriots Alan Branch was a recommended add last week and had 3 solos and an assist. He is a solid DT required add and start. His counterpart Malcolm Brown had an even better day with 3 solos 2 assists and 2 sacks. With Ninkovich coming back Trey Flowers snaps went down. He is still a hold for me, but will find it tough to get snaps. Browns Christian Kirksey had a great day with 11 solos 5 assists. He is streamable each week as an LB2. With the Patriots throwing all over the place Ibraheim Campbell got back into the mix. I still would not start him. Poyer and Kindred are both fine low end DB2 streaming options.
  • Eagles 23 Lions 24… I started Hicks and was recommending him all week. This was the week for him to bust out with the injuries and facing a team like Detroit. It did not happen. I am holding all of my shares. It could be a buy-low opportunity. Mychal Kendricks got more snaps in and had 3 solos. That is good to see, but he is still sitting on all my benches. The Lions Tahir Whitehead continues his LB1 campaign. As we discussed, depending on id your team is contending or not he could be a good buy or sell. Devin Taylor’s turn. He got 3 solos and a sack while Hyder only had one sack. Ziggy please come back soon!!
  • Bears 23 Colts 29… Bears backup safety Chris Prosinski had a solid stat day with 6 solos and 2 assists, but got Posterized by Ezekiel Elliot hurdling over him. This will be one of the season’s best highlights! One of my fav’s Jonathan Bullard had a nice showing with 3 solos and a sack. He is a stash that I think will be a good DL1 in a season or so. Willie Young had had a bonkers day with 4 solo 1 assist and 3 sacks. I do not expect him to be startable, unless you are in super deep leagues starting 4 LBs. Clayton Geathers is getting better each week and should be owned and starting in all leagues if healthy. Based on the last couple games it appears that D’Qwell Jackson’s floor is back, but we are still missing his ceiling. Temper expectations. With the release of Sio Moore we expected Morrison to get more snaps. He did and chipped in 3 solos and 1 assist. He cannot be started yet. The key word there is yet. He was one of my favorite deep sleepers pre draft and is getting a great opportunity to shine now. He and Josh McNary each played 38% of the snaps and Morrison outplayed him. He may end up being a Kevin Minter LB3/4 type at worst case. A high end LB2 best case.
  • Titans 30 Dolphins 17… Brian Orakpo is having a solid season. He had 5 solos 1 assist and 2 sacks. Derek Morgan did not want to be out done and had a 4 solo 2 sack game. Finally, DE Jurrel Casey had a 2 solo 2 sack game. It was a long day for Ryan Tannehill. Orakpo is a spot start option. Avery Williamson had a quiet game as the Dolphins only attempted 17 rushing attems and 18 pass attempts. Kiko continues his dominance. I am starting to think he back to stud LB1 status. He says he is healthy and is playing at a very high level. His price is probably not outrageous.
  • Redskins 16 Ravens 10… Redskins Will Compton is a legit LB2 and should be started. Side note, there is a messy situation going with Su’a Cravens with his concussion claiming he has permanent eye damage. We won’t go into how I feel about him… If you can salvage a 4th rounder for him sell him now. Ladarious Webb is one of the reasons I hate DBs. I wrote him off last week as he had done nothing through four weeks and came up with a 6 solo 1 assist game. The Skins tossed the ball 41 times. I don’t expect that production to continue. Weddle was “meh” with 1 solo and 4 assists. Neither are startable for me.
  • Texans 13 Vikings 31… JJ Watt is a beast, but I thought the surrounding cast was better than this? The Vikings are legit and I love what they are doing on both sides of the ball. The Vikings ran 37 times vs 30 passing attempts. Clowney could be flirting with being a startable option. He would be a lower end LB3 for me. He had better stats that McKinney this week. I believe McKinney is a must start the rest of the way. Josh Johnson fav’ Whitney Mercilus had a solid day with 2 solo 1 assist and 1.5 sacks. I still cannot in good conscience start him or Clowney unless I am decimated with injuries or are super thin. Danielle Hunter got back in the action with 1 solo 2 assists and a sack. Veteren Brian Robison outsnapped him 86% to 59% and had 2 solos 2 sacks and a FF. The snap count is concerning. Minnesota must see more value in brining Hunter along more slowly. He is a borderline start with his snapcount and average weekly production. Short the one big game he is been “just ok”.
  • Jets 13 Steelers 31… The Jets Pryor is still a streamer for me. He had 5 solos. The Jets only got to Ben 1 time despite him throwing the ball 47 times. The Steelers Heyward may be out for a while with an injury. He is still a hold in dynasty. If he is out an extended time I bump Steven Tuitt up a bit to a low end DL2. Vince Williams played on 88% of snaps. If you are looking for a volume desperation play he could be your guy.
  • Falcons 23 Broncos 16… This game surprised me. Mostly because of the Falcons defense. We all are expecting the offense to hum along as it has been. Vic Beasly had a break out game with 7 solo 1 assists, 3.5 sacks and 2 FF. This was more likely the awful offensive line situation than anything. As much as I love Vic I got rid of all my shares prior to this season starting. Being short at LB they put Kemal Ishmael in there and he had a solid day with 4 solo and 6 assist. Campbell very well could be back this week so that could be short lived. They may have stumbled on to something, so Ishmael is a hold for me. For the Broncos, Shane Ray played on 78% of snaps, more than any OLB. I was never a fan but he has looked decent this year. Von Miller got another sack and water is wet…
  • Bengals 14 Cowboys 28… Ezekiel Elliot is the real deal. He should be the overall number one RB in dynasty now. We’ve been keeping an eye on Byron Jones and he played on 87% of the snaps and had 4 solos. Lee and Church continue to be top options. Burfict, as expected, is in season form with 9 solos and an assist. He played on 77% of snaps and Dansby went down to 68% of snaps. That limits the ability to start Dansby. I expect that trend to continue or get worse for him.
  • Bills 30 Rams 19… This Bills team is a bit of a head scratcher. They should not be doing as well as they are but here they are… Lorenzo Alexander only played on 64% of snaps but had a monster game with 6 solos and 3 sacks. He is a marginal high end LB3 start most weeks. “What can Brown do for you?” continued to be solid with them combining for 11 solo and 6 assists Adolphus Washington led the Bills DE snap count at 46% and had 3 solos and a sack. He has been a deep add for us and should be on taxi squads everywhere. Robert Quinn is still hurt and cannot be started. Barron/McDonald/Ogletree/Donald continue to be must starts weekly.
  • Chargers 31 Raiders 34… This was the fun one to watch this week. Two improving teams battling it out. “Bosa’s back and your gonna be in trouble… hey now, hey now, my Bosa’s back…” We’ve been waiting for this. His debut! 4 solo, 1 assist and 2 sacks. Owners can breathe a sigh of relief and start putting him in their lineups. Well, the score is now Jatavis Brown 1 / Corey James 0… Brown had 5 solos 1 assist and a sack while James had 1 solo 1 assist (on 100% of snaps). James is probably a sell at this point. He does not look like a locked up option in the middle. Perry Riley made the most of being added to the Raiders with a 6 solo 1 assist day. He is for sure a bench rounding streamer option. Karl Joseph played on 98% of snaps, so he is locked. He got an INT this week and is a must start always.
  • Giants 16 Packers 23… JPP is outplaying Vernon and is a must start for me. Vernon is a DL3 for me at this point until he puts up more consistent numbers. Kyler Fackrell made the most of his few snaps with 2 solos 1 assist and a sack. I like him to earn a starting role by next season. The only players I trust weekly on this defense are Burnett and Clinton-Dix. Micah Hyde is close, as he has played on 74% of snaps and could be matchup dependant. Blake Martinez has only played on 52% of snaps since the season started. He cannot be trusted to start.
  • Bucs 17 Panthers 14… I want to thank Twitter! The poll I created was in favor of Bucs plus 6 and the under. $38.55 in my pocket thank you very much!! This was not much of a game to watch, other than my betting interests. Shaq Thompson continues to get more snaps. He played on 69% of snaps while Thomas Davis was on 49%. We talked about this weeks ago. Hopefully it is not too late for you to go get him. He had a solid game with 4 solos and 3 assists.

As we approach the start of week 6, we have trends that have emerged. We have injuries all over the place. With most playoffs starting in weeks 12-13 we are almost at the halfway mark. Look at your teams, see if you are in contention and make plans. Look at byes, matchups and where you stand. Now is the time to make some moves!
