It’s that time again, time to dig deep and help make the hard calls! Bye weeks have started and as your studs hit the bench for the week you need someone to step up and fill their shoes. Doing so can be a tough task and managing through the bye weeks is what makes or breaks your season!
Relax, well, at least try to! I’m here to help with some long shot predictions and analysis that can potentially make you look like a genius come Monday morning. I don’t guarantee these picks to be successful but in these writings so far I have averaged at least 1 per article being correct. Each call is a gamble but the reward can be very high as well!
Detroit @ Green Bay
Prediction: Ryan Broyles is nearly a top 5 receiver this week, Grab him now thank me later!
Why? This prediction is in no way a knock to Calvin Johnson or Reggie Bush! I believe both of them will also have big games. The Detroit and Green bay matchups always seem to be shootouts! Fantasy points could come from everywhere this week!
Teams know what they are up against in Megatron and are going to keep adapting to Bush as the season progresses. As the Lions continue to move the ball another option has to emerge for Stafford. Burleson was doing fairly well to start the season but unfortunately he literally broke his arm eating pizza. The lions need a #2 receiver to take the load off of Johnson. Broyles has been pegged that guy for 2 years now and it is time to see it happen.
Ryan Broyles has career stats of 25/344/2. He only played in 10 games last year due to injury and has been eased back into action this season. The most exciting thing about him though is his ability to get first downs! In those 25 catches 18 of them have gone for a 1st down! The more 1st downs a team has the more plays they run, the more plays they run the more chances they have to score points! It’s truly a win –win from a fantasy perspective. Broyles is an asset to this team when healthy and I believe we will see that breakout this Sunday!
Philadelphia @ NY Giants
Prediction: David Wilson finally rewards his patient fantasy owners with a big game!
Why? David Wilson has made a strong case for biggest bust this season. In fact the entire Giants team minus Victor Cruz could be considered a bust so far! Take a deep breath giant’s fans; it’s going to get better! Antrel Rolle predicts the Giants will go 12-0 in their remaining schedule and make the playoffs! Sorry Rolle, I don’t quite believe that! I do think they finally get a win this weekend though and at 1-4 ironically still be in the early playoff picture in the putrid NFC East.
Sorry, for the small rant there…. Back to David Wilson, Chances are you drafted him in the 3rd round or sooner and he was probably your RB2. I really feel sorry for you if CJ Spiller or Ray Rice was your RB1 but that’s another story. Wilson has the breakaway speed and the ability to be a great back. What he doesn’t have is an offensive line and any holes to get much yardage. That should change this week. The giants have played 4 good run stopping Defenses to start the season and technically one the hardest schedules to date. The Eagles however are not a great defense. Good may even be a bit of a stretch. Holes will open up! David Wilson will break 100 yards this weekend and find the end zone at least once! People will be jumping back on the David Wilson bandwagon after this weekend. This will be your last chance to get him cheap in a trade! If you have him though, be ready to reap the rewards of being patient.
*The Giants just released Scott who was their second leading rusher and was splitting time with Wilson. Releasing him in my opinion should be a big confidence boost for David as they think he can handle more of the load.
Seattle @ Indianapolis
Prediction: Golden Tate has a stat line to the tune of 7/120/2
Why? Most people look at the basic stats and say Russell Wilson has been struggling. I can’t argue the stat lines but if you look deeper it’s really been the matchups and not a lack of skill. Marshawn Lynch has been dominant so far and overall the Seahawks have not needed to pass a lot. Wilson’s numbers have also been kept in check by tough defenses and the weather. I believe that changes this weekend and Tate and Wilson connect for some big plays.
The Colts defense is no joke having held the 49ers in check and then destroying the jaguars. They will put up a good fight. The Seahawks have proven they can win in many different ways as they were offensively dominated by 200 yards last week in Houston and still found a way to win. I just believe that that time has come for Wilson to throw more and Tate is primed to become a high end receiver. Look for Tate to break at least one big gain for a td and find pay dirt again when the Seahawks get in the redzone late in the game!
NY Jets @ Atlanta (Monday night)
Prediction: Jaquizz Rodgers has over 150 all purpose yards on MNF
Why? Because the Falcons need him to! The Falcons were a preseason favorite to reach the super bowl but have fallen to 1-3 this season! They need a win in the worst way. Rodgers has filled in nicely for the injured Steven Jackson having vastly outplayed Jason Smelling in my opinion. Even with his smaller size he has developed nicely into virtually an every down back. He has grabbed 13 catches this season for 94 yards (6/54 last Sunday against the patriots) already and I see a good chunk of his yards on Sunday coming from the pass.
The Jets Defense has been doing fairly well so far for the season but did just give up 38 points to the Tennessee Titians. I believe that the Falcons are desperate for a win and with the aerial attack already in place that they have the jets will be worrying about getting burnt deep, opening up space for screens and dump passes to Rodgers. Also don’t forget about the ground game as Rodgers can rip off a big run at any second. 150 APY for Jaquizz Rodgers may be shooting low for the potential this offense has!
*Good/Bad? Risky/Soft? With the bye weeks in full force you could do a lot worse than the players mentioned here! Let me know your thoughts on if I will get any calls right and where you think I am way off!
Good Luck this weekend!
