Trade Advice - Miller + Evans/Cooks

Postby Kybone » Mon Mar 20, 2017 7:35 pm

I'm in a 12 team league and just gave up a decent haul to acquire Julio. I've also acquired Howard and Hilton via trade.

The Lamar Miller owner is looking to trade him off. He also has Mike Evans and Brandin Cooks who I'd probably need to make a trade. He mentioned he's more interested in trading Cooks (obviously )

Starting requirements, QB, 2xRB, 3xWR, R/W/T, etc.
Scoring: Non-PPR

My roster:
QB: Tyrod, Romo, Goff, Glennon
RB: Freeman, Howard, Gio, Jamaal Charles
WR: Julio, Hopkins, Watkins, Hilton, Crabtree, Meredith, Boyd, Treadwell
TE: Brate, Bennett, Ebron, D Allen
Picks: 1.4, 1.5, 1.10, 2.1

[UPDATE 3/22] - Gave: (Crabtree, John Brown, Cam Brate) - Got: (Cooks, Enunwa)

His roster:
QB: Stafford, Geno
RB: Miller, Ajayi, Smallwood, Richard
WR: Evans, Cooks, Enunwa, Dorsett, Martavis Bryant
TE: Vance McDonald
Picks: 1.3, 1.7

After the Julio trade, my team is definitely a contender and I have some solid depth as well as picks. Should I try and do some kind of trade for Evans?

I thought:
Get: Lamar Miller + Mike Evans
Give: Freeman/Howard + Hilton/Watkins

1) That would downgrade my RB slightly, but would it be worth it?
2) Should I pitch some picks/players on top of a WR to acquire Evans?

Let me know your suggestions and thanks in advance.

My guess would be that he won't view the RB swap worth the huge WR downgrade.

OK so any suggestion on what else it would take? Maybe 1.4 + Treadwell in addition to the current package?

Now that I look at it, I could definitely upgrade at QB. Can't recall ever trading for a QB without another QB involved. Might look to do that as well.

Personally I would see if he was interested in Hopkins and see if I could package him with some of your bench and maybe later pick(s).

Of course you could just roll with your rb's and WR and upgrade your QB and TE's.

You're giving up too much. I would not be moving Hilton in a deal to get Evans. That's practically a lateral move.

I also wouldn't be looking to downgrade RB to improve WR which is already your best position.
And the way the draft is right now, you're looking at a WR at 1.4 as well.
If you want to upgrade WR you should be trading a WR with 1.4 to get a better WR. Not downgrading your thinnest position.
10-team .5 PPR
Ben, Carr, Stafford
Gurley, AP, Hill, Ware, Henry, Booker, Prosise, Crowell
AJG, Watkins, DT, Jordy, Doctson, Floyd, Dorsett, Carroo, JJ Nelson
Ladarius
1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.1, 2.2

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It seems like the moves I should be considering are these:

1) Upgrade at QB
2) Hold onto stud RBs
3) Package a WR and pick(s) to get an improved WR

Since I don't have much XP in trading for a QB, what would you suggest I give up for a guy like Winston or Mariota? What are they worth in players/picks from my team?

The owner came back to me with this proposal:

Give: Crabtree, John Brown, Cameron Brate
Get: Brandin Cooks, Quincy Enunwa

What are your thoughts?

I like Brate as a decent TE, but I'd immediately accept this. Crabtree is 30(?) and been a huge disappointment over his career. I do not buy into him as any kind of a reliable late bloomer to produce anywhere near Cooks. I'd rather have Enunwa than the diminutive and HIGHLY overrated John Brown.

Done. Couldn't agree more. Plus, Martellus Bennett and Eric Ebron are similar enough to Brate that he's expendable.

Any advice to the questions about valuing/trading for a QB?

Like the deal a lot long term for you. In win now mode, I would have a hard time parting with Crabtree's consistency but Cooks has plenty of upside in NE although you may not get those dividends until 2018. While Crabtree's career in San Fran was not great he has been very good in Oakland ranking 17th in 2015 and 9th last season as a WR over the 16 game fantasy season.

Cook's numbers will probably drop in NE next year but he was even better than Crabtree the last two years. His only problem is a new system on team that throws less to multiple targets.

Not a Brown fan and Enunwa does have some upside probably as much or more than Brown.

Bennett is way better than Ebron IMO. Ebron should be packaged in your trade quest to upgrade QB.

I don't think QB is a huge need but still something to look at. Tyrod Taylor has back-to-back top 10 seasons and will repeat that feat yet again. And he does it so unassumingly.

Thanks for the feedback, gents.

It was tough to let Crabtree go, but he was a bench player behind the other guys. With that, Cooks upside and long term play was a great move.

I'm now planning to trade for Jordan Reed. The other team wants to hold Greg Olsen and is weak at WR (Nelson, Stills, Gabriel, T Benjamin, Maclin are his top 5 - 3 start)... Again, my current tight ends are Bennett, Ebron and Allen.

Considering this:
Give: M Bennet, Enunwa, Meredith, Treadwell
Get: Jordan Reed, Derrick Henry

Would that be enough? Should I hold any of those guys? Agree with going after J Reed and D Henry?

No, I don't think that's enough. I don't really see how that helps that guy. I don't think his starters at WR change and he gives up Reed and Henry. It doesn't really make much sense.

Reed and Henry are the best two players in the trade. By a good margin. So I don't see this having any chance of getting accepted.
