Last year I made what I thought was a “not so bold” prediction with stating the Oakland Raiders would win the AFC West which can be read here but as it turned out……..they didn’t win the division nor did the team I thought they would unseat for the division title (Denver Broncos) win the division but instead the Kansas City Chiefs made their own bold move at the end of last season and stole the crown to win the AFC West only to lose in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Raiders still managed to make the playoffs as a Wild Card Team but lost to the Houston Texans after losing their Quarterback and team leader Derek Carr which was a big reason why my prediction failed to hold up as I am confident that had the Raiders not lost their offensive leader at the end of the season, they would have, at the very least, won the AFC West Division but that’s why they play the games.

So without learning my lesson last year, I begin this years Bold Predictions series with predicting that the New York Giants win the NFC East division and make a deep run into the 2017 NFL Playoffs. The Giants realize that Eli Manning isn’t getting any younger and that their window of opportunity is NOW which is why they recently added former Jets WR Brandon Marshall to their roster giving Eli yet another weapon in addition to WR Odell Beckham, Jr, WR Sterling Shepard and 2017 rookie 1st rd draft pick TE Evan Engram.

The NFC East has suddenly become a very solid division after often being criticized as the leagues weakest division. Here are some of the moves the Giants division rivals have made over the last couple years:

The Dallas Cowboys struck gold in the 2016 NFL Draft last year with their selections of RB Ezekiel Elliott with the 4th pick in round 1 and QB Dak Prescott in round 4 while they hope they spent wisely with their 3rd pick in the 2nd round by selecting LB Jaylon Smith whom they are hoping will have an impact this year and fully recover from a serious injury to his knee which he sufferred during the Fiesta Bowl just before the NFL Draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles also hope to have found their future QB in the 2016 NFL Draft by selecting Carson Wentz with the second overall pick. They also added former Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery and former New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount making their offense one to be reckoned with.

The Washington Redskins once again franchised their stud QB Kirk Cousins for an unprecedented second year in a row but let two of his top wide receivers (Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon) move on to other teams. In return, they added former Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor as well as drafting rookie RB Samaje Perine with the seventh pick in the 4th round. They also have a 2nd year WR they selected in the 1st round of last year’s NFL Draft who is returning from injury in Josh Doctson.

What this all means is that each of the NFC East teams have done well at addressing their needs in the draft and free agency which has made the division a much more competitive one but the Giants bring a higher level of experience to the field at key positions which can only help their locker room and on the field leadership that will lead to them bringing that Division Title back to the Big Apple. And as we all know, once they get to the playoffs anything can happen from there!

So there you have it…… away Cowboy, Eagles and Redskins fans! Let me hear your anger, thoughts, and reactions. I will not ignore you.

After the season, I will follow up with a review of how accurate my predictions were just as I did with last years predictions which you can see here
